Fuck Obama.
When Rudd became PM, I was already calling him "New Bastard" on the very night. I was under no illusions as to what kind of a politician he was: Not a good one, but better than Howard.

And he has been not a good PM, about as bad as Howard. Shows me how much cynicism I have: Not quite enough.

But Obama? I believed. I sincerely did. I didn't think he had a hope in hell of repairing the bridges of bipartisanship (I was correct) and I didn't think he'd pursue war crimes proceedings against Bush and co. (I'm correct.)

I thought he'd be better than this.

Commentary by Andrew Sullivan and Glenn Greenwald.

Fuck him. Just another bastard.

Liberals out there? Show America what it MEANS to be a liberal. Blast Obama. Publicly. Protest this in any way you can. Get noisy and angry about it. Because at least to me, that's what it means to be liberal: You don't trust a politician for a SECOND even when he's on your side. You don't give him any slack even when he's on your side.

Because, as a liberal, I believe they're never on our side.

Edit: Yet more commentary by Hilzoy and Kevin Drum. Good. This needs attention, and I'm hoping to see more on it.

I do hope you've got more to damn Obama on than just that article, hon. Go back and look at the first four presidential orders he made. You didn't say 'boo' to things like ordering Guantamo shut down and a full review into the practices of torture and interrogation, and yet you're willing to savage his ankles over an article which clearly isn't even objective?

KJ, this was one of the big ones – A situation where the (last, granted) White House had acted abominably. If Obama lifted the cone of silence here, it would have spoken volumes about his intent to improve America's image in earnest.

He didn't.

We have no reason to trust him now. He may do some good still -- I think he's still a better president than McCain would have been, or than Bush was.

But in the end, we're still back at the standard operating procedure: Distrust him, verify every fricking thing he says, verify his deeds and assume the worst.

Like every politician.

That's what it means to be liberal? HAHAHAHAHAHA.

yeah. From what I see, for the most part, it's just 'everything our folks say is gold, everything their folks say is horrible and wrong' on the part of all the vocal folk on whatever side.

Not holding my breath.

Because I'm totally agreeing with and defending everything my guy says, right Will?

Dammit, I believe in this. This is a damn important belief, and it is one I wish more people shared: They're never on our side.

Obama's just demonstrated that for all his talk of 'openness' he's going to be as closed as the last guy was when he feels like it.

Screw him.

If nothing else, you can't deny that MY approach is genuinely bipartisan: I hate 'em all. :)
